The Dragon's Tooth

Cyrus Smith lives in a rundown motel along with his sister, Antigone, and his older brother, Daniel. It is a pretty boring place, the Archer Motel, until an unexpected guest shows up.

The man is called Skelton. The first thing Cyrus notices about him is that he is strange. He has a skeleton tattoo covering as much of his skin as Cyrus can see, and he requests a specific room- Cyrus's room.

Within a day of Skelton's arrival, the Archer Motel is in a state of turmoil, and Daniel has gone missing. Skelton, near death, asks Cyrus and Antigone to recite a strange oath, and then passes on a couple of his belongings to them.

A few hours later, Cyrus and Antigone find themselves in a place known as Ashtown. They are scared and are worried about their brother. Together, they must find a way to save their brother, and get back home. However, the evils of Ashtown may keep the siblings from reuniting anytime soon.

If you are looking for an action packed fantasy fiction, The Dragon's Tooth is it. This is one of those books that will keep you up half the night because it is so good. I like how the author does not spend too much time describing(we all hate those books that waste five pages describing the leaves on a tree), but jumps right into the action within the first 30 pages. You do not want to miss out on this, it is a great read for people of all ages.

100 Cupboards

Henry York is, for the most part, an average twelve year old boy. A family emergency lands the him in Henry, Kansas, living with his aunt, uncle, and their three daughters. Upon arrival, Henry is thoroughly unimpressed with his temporary residence. Until he discovers the cupboards.

Henry, along with his younger cousin, Henrietta, uncover a wall of 99 cupboards in Henry's attic bedroom. The cupboards become Henry and Henrietta's secret summer project. Together, they study the cupboards and learn that what they have discovered is not just a bunch of cupboards, but 99 magic cupboards that lead to different worlds.

The 99 cupboards on Henry's wall entertain Henry and Henrietta for quite some time. They find a cupboard that leads to a post office, and even a cupboard that opens into a forest. The two kids deem these cupboards the greatest discovery ever. However, upon examination of the cupboards, they come across an ebony cupboard that conflicts with their fun.

The cupboards lead the two children on a journey which ultimately brings them closer together. They reveal a whole new meaning to Henry's life, while forcing him to evaluate his past. The cupboards change Henry's life forever.

100 Cupboards is a great read.  I never got bored while reading this book.  It is short enough that the reader does not lose interest, yet long enough to cover the storyline in a captivating manner.  A few of the things that I especially like include the rural Kansas setting, the relatable characters, and the balance between the natural and the unnatural throughout the novel.

I hate to say it, but I'm one of those people that judges a book by it's cover. If the cover looks cool, chances are I'm going to pick up the book and read the back of it. If the back sounds good, I'll definitely buy or borrow it. The kind of covers that make me pick up a book are the kind that stand out. It's got to be colorful, but not too flashy. It's got to make me wonder what the books all about. The 100 Cupboards series does exactly that. Don't ya think?

100 Cupboards Book Trailer

Here's the link for the 100 Cupboards book trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19DoOGuhUa8
It's not quite as good as The Dragon's Tooth book trailer because there are no actors, but it's still interesting to see.

The Trilogy

I just ordered the complete 100 Cupboards trilogy from amazon.com. They'll be here by Wednesday :) The entire set cost just $18! I lost my first copy of 100 Cupboards, and had been reading the ebook version, but decided it just wasn't the same as holding the book in my hands. There's nothing like reading the old fashioned way, huh?

My ND Wilson Reading List:

Audio Books Rule

I'm currently listening to the 100 Cupboards audio book, and reading along some. It's interesting how having the book read to you provides you with a whole different outlook on the story. I feel like a little kid again! A review of the book will soon follow.

A Movie

Who's excited for the 100 Cupboards movie?! It will be absolutely phenomenal. It'll be produced by Beloved Pictures, who seem to be big fans of the trilogy, so hopefully the movie will be true to the book. The first film is in the early stages of production, and a release date has yet to be set. I know the film probably won't be out until 2013 or 2014, but I'm allowing myself to get excited :))))))))) It's gonna be magical to see the words come to life on the big screen.

Awaiting The Drowned Vault

The Drowned Vault is coming out September 11, 2012. AHHHH. I don't know how I'm going to be able to wait all summer for it. I mean, come on, can't they just release it a month earlier? Although, I guess the long wait will make the book that much better. Plus I'll have plenty of time to re-read and re-read and re-read The Dragon's Tooth :) I can't wait to see how the Smith kids' dad, Lawrence, plays into the next book, and what happens with the tooth. I can already tell that The Drowned Vault will be an excellent read.

FINISHED!

I finished ND Wilson's The Dragon's Tooth!!! Ah man, what a great book. I know it took me awhile to finish since my last post, but I did it. ND Wilson could not have written a better ending. It was as action packed as an ending to a well written novel should be. The last page left me really curious as to WHAT THE HELL'S GOING ON with Phoenix, and how the kids' lives will be in the future. You've done it again, Wilson, well done! Can't wait to read The Drowned Vault!

Thanks Man, I Owe Ya

I would like to thank the person who inspired me to start reading ND Wilson's stuff, Joel Courtney. Dude you opened my eyes to a whole new world of nerd fiction! For those of you who don't know, Joel recently starred in the JJ Abrams/Steven Spielberg film, Super 8, and even played Cyrus in the book trailer for The Dragon's Tooth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3PTZrqX1FY . He is pretty much an awesome kid who reads awesome literature and is awesome at acting. Really, you all should go watch Super 8, you won't be sorry! Anyway, thanks Joel! Without you, I might never have discovered the wonderful brain child of ND Wilson.

Nearly Finished!

I've only got about 30 pages of The Dragon's Tooth left! I'm excited to find out what happens in the end, but I almost don't want to finish. I love this book. I don't want to be done with it! However, I don't have to be too sad when I finish, for The Drowned Vault will be hitting shelves soon!

Here's What this Blog's All About

Well, if you happen to stumble upon this blog, you should know that it is devoted to ND Wilson's books. I'm going to write reviews, my thoughts, and any news about his books. I would love to hear anyone else's thoughts in the comments (assuming that people will actually read my blog haha). As of right now I have only read 100 Cupboards and 3/4 of The Dragon's Tooth, so I definitely have a lot of reading to do, but hey that's what summer's for right?! ENJOY, ND WILSON FANS!
